DIALOG WITH EU– THE VOICES OF THE EUROPEAN CITIZENS

SUMMARY

The DIA-EU project is co-financed by the European Commission within the Europe for Citizens Programme, action 1, measure 2.1 “Citizens’ projects”, (reference no. 162826-EFC-1-2009-1-RO-EFC-CP). The European Union and its institutions are perceived differently by European citizens. Although the European institutions are open to dialog with its citizens, the later do not interact at this level especially due to the lack of information and encouragement in this sense. The “Dialogue with EU – The Voices of European Citizens” project aims at empowering citizens with the necessary knowledge and civic competences to express their opinions on issues like the European integration process or the EU policies and their impact by involving them in a series of activities where they will learn what mechanisms the EU makes available for them to give their opinions (forums, opinion polls, etc.). The project also aims at developing the feeling of citizenship within the European Union and at enhancing tolerance and mutual understanding between European citizens, respecting and promoting cultural and linguistic diversity, while contributing to intercultural dialogue. By enhancing tolerance and mutual understanding between European citizens, the project aims at raising awareness on the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity at the level of the EU, as well as of the need of intercultural dialog. This will be achieved by means of national and international events scheduled in the 12 months of the project under the form of conferences, round table discussions, seminars and awareness raising activities with citizens.
